Barbados won its first medal on Day 6 of the events, officially day 7 of the XX Commonwealth Games. It is the country’s first track and field Commonwealth medal in 16 years.
It was Shane Brathwaite, to bring the pride to the country this time around behind Jamaica’s Andrew Riley (Gold) and England’s William Sharman (Silver) justifying his selection as Barbados’ flag bearer at the Games.
Earlier in the day the Badminton players also had some success with Shari Watson advancing to the round of 16 in the Women’s Singles and Dakeil Thorpe advancing to the round of 32 in the Men’s Singles.
Cobia Breedy was back in the boxing ring against Trinidadian Michael Alexander. Breedy fought well but was edged out by the longer reach of the Trinidadian. All three judges scored the Trinidadian just one point better.
